Well 9.30 am and my new v4 comp lands, took some quick pics out of the box,it now comes in a smaller box
and yoou fit the new rear wing yourself.Mine came minus engine,as I am fitting an Oddified 4 bolt and
    Samba four pipe.
What do I think?well I don't know yet,it seems to unfold on you as you go,once you have opened an
Ultimate box well anything is going to be a let down.
Then after a while you see a lot has changed, the chassis kinks up at the front, the suspension leans
back,it's longer axle to axle, the shell is broader and a touch longer, and sleeker, yes it feels much
lighter, the transmision gear cover screws to the floor of the side guard,it looke like the alloy gear
carrier mk1 will fit,the gearing supplied 30/33/23/26 but with bigger dia wheels ??The air filter supplied
in a bag fits with cable ties (rubbish idea) but have not opened it yet.Screw quality better, well
Yes they have been busy, and I am going to enjoy setting it up while the shell is being painted, what
will it do for me,I dont know yet,but it's a very good step forward, would love some of the theories
explained behind it,and rehaps a set up guide, will keep you posted. Now where is that 24mm wheel
socket,oh damm the ratchet handle is a metre long LOL ;D

The steel gears are the same as the stock Ultimate ones, the inner gears are a slightly different design to the Evo 3 Competition stock gears. There are still plenty of gear ratio options but to be honest 30, 33, 23, 26 with a tuned engine and pipe will be a good combination.

The new V4 wheels/tyres are larger than the existing MCD (or FG, Hormann, SLD..) tyres.

Harry, thanks for posting the photos...the car looks great.

Clive, the gears are very confusing,it looks to me like the first type of gears, where the small set are domed
centres, and the drive square between b and c is deeper than the ultimate one,but it's all down to the
length of the gear shaft attached to the clutch bell,I have shown it in my pics,so whatever gears you
have could work,I will investigate, also the drive square. So 2 sizes of shaft and 2 of alloy block no
    great problem.
As for diffs,as far as I know they are the same, the only change was a long time ago,I am fitting the
LSD's from my comp.I actually love the investigating stage,so early start tommorow.

Saturday 8 am start, the v4 is getting better as I go,thought I would get the gear carrier (alloy mcd one)
and try it on the v4,looks like it will work ok.the gears are the same spacing see pics, some clever stuff
hidden in the v4 and it gets better as you go,even recorded f1 to get on a bit, will fit the carrier next
and make sure all is well, then swop the diffs for LSD ones, not that there is anything wrong with std ones
but got to use my expensive bits from my evo 3 comp. Some pics from today.

Do they take HPI wheels, now then. rather than the Evo 3's square setup.

I presume yes if they are 24mm hex,I think they tried them at rossmod, but may have messed with hex's
as well, not sure, the funny thing is even with the big wheels it's lower in height.

Pictures update, been playing transmisions this afternoon, nothing wrong with the new gear carrier,in fact
the clutch bell has a bigger rim round the shaft and the bearing in the carrier is bigger see pics(click on
full screen) so I wanted  to use my alloy one,so messed about and decided to use the old one some
new sealed bearings and it fits, always find that it takes 4/5 fits to get the tranny nice and free, takes
ages but well worth it,sometimes just doing up the screws can pull it out a touch so I go back
and keep at it till it's A1.
Must admit it's looking better and better, bit like a good looking tart, you are not in love till you
    have her dress off, ;D ;D ;D

Thanks for posting up the differences in detail. Im tossing up on trying to decide on buying a V4 or retro fitting some of these parts over to my Evo3.

My thinking behind buying a v4 was I could see the market changing, and having got an ultimate last year which is
superb,I wanted a new project as cheap as possible, and the best way was to use the engine/radio/pipe/servos
and buy a V4 comp without an engine and use the bits from my evo 3 comp.I know I have some bits left and the uk
used market is not brilliant, but my evo3 owed too much to gain any sensible return in a recession,so it was do
nothing or move on and sell some bits here and there over the next months.I have sold some things proir to
stripping the evo3,wheels/tyres,std diffs, gears and all sorts, also cut back on the weekly must have model shop
hop ups, half of which are no use at all,so it will have cost very little to change into the v4.
So far I am well impressed and as for retro fitting bits you would be limited to the bits I have mentioned for
a swop over,it really is new.

Yes it is a plastic tray, very strong but light (ribbed for strength)the car will be 1kg lighter,as for the tank
I dont know yet,but will have to remove the back end to fit diff so I will see,as I would like to do the
same with my ultimate, but suspect parts are a month or so of yet, will keep posting details.
